Paul Jorden
Pastor

Paul and his family moved to Westminster in 1997 from Fort Collins where Paul had pastored a church since 1982. Paul says, “Whether we fully know it or not, each of us in life is on a spiritual journey. It is a thrill to be part of a church where we can help people take the next step of growing in Christ while celebrating the uniqueness of each step along the way.”

Paul majored in biology and geology at Western Michigan University, earned a master’s of divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a doctor of ministry from Denver Seminary.

Paul and his wife Judy were married in 1978 and have two grown children. They began their lives together ministering to youth and college students in Youth for Christ. Paul is an avid birder and hiker.

Tony N. Schenk

Tony and his wife Angela were married in 1999 and have a beautiful daughter named Mya Lynn, born March 28, 2007. They have enjoyed being partners in ministry throughout their marriage. Tony has been a part of Family in Christ since 1997 were he led our worship until mid 2004. Throughout that time he also served us by leading a purpose-driven student ministry. During 2004 until November of 2005, Tony was the Student Ministries Pastor at Crossroads Baptist Church where he recruited and utilized a large staff of volunteers, planned and executed a well-rounded Biblically based student ministry program for 150+ students. Tony returned to Family in Christ in November 2005 as our Worship, Music & Technology Pastor after feeling a call from God to use his gifts, talents, and leadership in the planning, visioning, and strategy of the total worship experience. Tony has a worshiper’s heart, and desires to live out his passion for worship through humility and servant leadership. He also desires to lead others in authentic praise and worship with the intent of growing closer to God and His will for his and their life.

Carmen Braaksma

Carmen joined the staff in July of 2003. She is a native of Colorado, born in Leadville and grew up in North Denver. She has been in administrative support positions since she graduated in 1979 from North High School. Carmen and her husband Ron were married in 1991. They have no children but consider their little dog Pebbles to be just as special as a child. Carmen enjoys doing all kinds of crafts from woodworking to paper crafts.

Judy Jorden
Director of Community Outreach

As Director of Community Outreach, Judy’s desire is to see adult volunteers have a variety of opportunities to reach out into our surrounding community and "do good". She believes that loving others ourside the church walls is a dynamic way to be the arms of Jesus in a hurting world.

Judy has a Masters Degree in Adult Education, Counseling and Career Development from Colorado State University and was a career counselor at Front Range Community College for 10 years. She enjoys seeing adults use their gifts and passions, in a ministry that energizes them.  Judy also loves getting her hands dirty in her garden, having a “proper” afternoon tea, reading a good book, and playing with her 2 adorable grandsons.

Angela Schenk
Director of Nursery Ministries

Angela is a mother of Mya Lynn, born March 28, 2007. She works full time outside the house processing payroll. She has been in the accounting/payroll field since 1998. She also works 1 day a week in our church office preparing the weekly bulletins. Angela loves spending time at home with her husband Tony and daughter Mya.

Angela has worked with children of all ages from newborns to high school over the past 16 years. She has worked in day care centers, volunteered in nurseries, taught Sunday school, and lead student ministry meetings at several churches. Throughout all of this her heart has always been to work with young children. Angela has volunteered in the Nursery at Family in Christ since 2005.

Susan Faltinson
Director of Children’s Ministries

Susan serves as one of two co-directors of Children's Ministry here at Family in Christ Community Church. She previously served for five years in a similar position at Cornerstone Church.

She holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Social Work and Psychology, as well as a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She fell in love with kids' ministry at age eighteen while serving at a Salvation Army Camp. She worked for this camp for four years, eventually rising to the position of Camp Director with Easter Seals, where she served for an additional six years. Susan pursued an additional degree in sign language interpretation from Front Range Community College in the mid 90's and continues to serve there as a adjunct faculty member teaching in their interpreter preparation program. Besides signing at our services, she also provides legal, medical, and vocational interpreting for deaf and hard-of-hearing clients. Other professional training and experience includes working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor with the state of Colorado.

Susan and her husband Rob were college sweethearts, and have been married since 1988. They have two children, Emily who was born in 1998 and Jonathan born in 2000.

Sheila Shea
Director of Children’s Ministries

Sheila’s desire is to pass on her passion for children to other adults and youth and train them to bring up children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Her goal would be to have all children under her care come to a saving knowledge of Christ. She also wants to help parents with the spiritual guidance of their children during these formative years and make Christian education a priority.

Sheila Shea is a graduate of St. John College of Cleveland. She has been working in children’s ministries since 1970. She taught at Faith Christian Academy since 1992 and is on the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Carrie Evans
Director of Student Ministries

Carrie Evans has a passion for using her life’s adventures and thoughts to reach teens and connect them to Christ and the Bible. She loves using creative lighting, objects, movie clips, computer tools, and music to more effectively engage youth. In addition to the scheduled time, she enjoys just hanging out with teens and getting to know them on a more personal level. She and her husband Harley both felt a strong calling to become members of Family in Christ and minister to their youth in May of 2006. She feels so blessed to be a part of their team of volunteers embracing and enriching the youth programs. Prior to Family in Christ, she served as the Youth Director for 2 years and as the Junior High Sunday School teacher for 4 years at King of King’s Church. At that location she created a new worship service for the youth, began an outreach program for a neighboring High School, developed a disciple emphasize for lock ins, utilized small groups, attended several youth and leadership training conferences, and participated in a youth missions trip.

Outside of youth ministry, Carrie is proud of being most known as “the mother of the twins”. These sweet, inquisitive, and rambunctious identical twin girls make sure there is never a dull moment in the household and almost daily provide inspiration for youth lessons. Other sources of lessons come from the 5 years she worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the Aerospace Industry. Carrie graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Prior to attending CU, she gained valuable insights from living in various locations the Air Force sent her father and the family.

Phil Christie

Director of Life Groups and The Ascent Ministries

Phil and his wife Stephanie were married in 2001.  They moved to Westminster from the suburbs of Chicago where they both received Bachelors degrees from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL.  They have two young children which are a source of great joy in their lives.

Phil completed a Masters of Divinity with a Leadership emphasis from Denver Seminary in 2008 and has been at FIC since the winter of 2008/9.  He oversees the Life Groups ministry and the Ascent (young adults at FIC), and various other areas to help people grow in their journey to know Jesus.

Phil enjoys spending time with his children, playing games, the outdoors, taking naps under the trees - anything done with friends or helping people encounter life together, particularly encountering God in the mess of life.

Jessica Schlesinger

Jessica is excited about the opportunity to serve our congregation and bring people closer in community and to God.   Jessica is working to encourage and develop that process, to help people who desire to be connected in our church community.


Jessica grew up in Northern California and in Phoenix. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Painting and Printmaking from SDSU. She has a passion for painting, drawing, and paper crafting.

 

Jessica and her husband Ian got married in 2006 in San Diego. They spent a few years living in the DC area while Ian was an officer in the Navy.  They have lived in Colorado since July of 2008, and now have one son, Coren, who was born in January of 2010.  She has worked in property management, in preschools first as a teacher and then the Assistant Director, and now loves being a stay at home mom.  Jessica loves living in Colorado and feels that God is working in her life here and providing her family with much joy.  She joined the staff in the summer of 2011 and looks forward to seeing what God has in store for her and our congregation through this wonderful opportunity.

Denise Martin

Facilities Manager

Denise joined our staff in 2008.  She moved here from Indiana with her husband Bill in 2006.  The last 10 years in Indiana she supervisored the building of over 550 homes.  The last 8 months were spent working for Habit For Humanity.  During this time she had the privilage of building 18 homes and working with more than 240 volunteers per home.  She has a real passion for construction.  It's almost like a hobby.

 

Denise has a daughter who lives in Colorado, is married and they have a son.  Her son and his wife live in Indiana.  Her hobbies are Colts football, Rockies baseball, Nascar races, taking vacations with her whole family and all kinds of crafts.  She also likes volunteering for many different things.
