Get Involved: Adult Ministries

The focus of Adult Ministries is to come along side of you, offering encouragement, support, chances to grow spiritually, and opportunities to serve God and the body of Christ. We know that getting connected to others is a wonderful way to have that happen. We encourage you to explore the possibilities, enjoy new friendships, and reach out to serve others.

Alpha MinistryThis course gives people an opportunity to Explore Christianity, in a fun, accepting, non-threatening environment. It is about building friendships, having interesting conversations, finding a place where you can ask perplexing questions without feeling judged, and sharing experiences and opinions. Alpha runs for 10 weeks at a time and is offered twice a year, on Wednesday nights.

Serving Opportunities:

  • Group Leaders –You don’t have to be a Bible scholar, just someone who is willing to listen and develop friendships with others. You will facilitate a discussion, based on the video, with your group.
  • Set up and Tear Down –Dinner and groups meet in the sanctuary. Chairs need to be stacked and moved so 8-10 dinner tables can be set up. This can be set up anytime after Sunday services. Also need a crew to clean up and prepare the sanctuary for worship after each class.
  • Song Leaders –Lead the singing either with an instrument or vocall
  • Video and SoundRun the sound system and video during group meetings.
  • Welcome Hosts –Provide a welcoming atmosphere by developing friendships and caring for people.

Card Ministry –If you love making handmade cards, then this ministry is for you. The card ministry exists to provide our ministry leaders with handmade cards used to bring well wishes, words of encouragement, express gratitude, celebrations, etc. We also have cards available for the congregation’s personal use. Their $3 donation per card is used to replenish supplies for this ministry. We currently meet on the 2nd & 4th Monday from 6:30-8:30pm at Carmen Braaksma's home. On the months when there is a 5th Monday we get together and have a potluck.

Serving Opportunities:

  • Handmade Card Donor – Many experienced card makers have their own supplies readily available and would like to participate in this ministry but their schedule does not allow them to participate in our regular group meetings. We would let you know what types of cards are needed and you can create them from your own environment and donate them to our church.
  • Workshop Demonstrator – As a demonstrator you can share your creativity and help others enjoy creativity and worthwhile accomplishments that make a difference in the lives of others. You do this by creating a design and preparing the supplies to produce cards at our regular group meetings.
  • Workshop Participant – As a participant you attend a group meeting and prepare the cards as directed by the demonstrator. This is a chance to learn from others and release your God-given creativity. We all have it, even if you think you don’t. You might be surprised with your talents once you’ve made your first card.

Life Groups – Acts 2:42 talks of people in the first century church devoting themselves to “the fellowship.” The Greek word used for fellowship is “Koinonia.” Living in and for the Koinonia for God’s glory is what life as a Christian is all about. We are part of the Body of Christ and we do life together. Life Groups are places where we intentionally seek to live in Koinonia.  In Life Groups people study, have fun, support and encourage, and serve together. Our goal is that everyone at FIC would experience life in Koinonia and we know of no better way to pursue that intentionally than in Life Groups.

Serving Opportunities:

  • Life Group LeaderThis is a great way to grow while helping others to do the same. Not all small groups are the same. For some, a leader may host the group, facilitate discussions, and plan group events.  For others, each of these roles may be shared by separate individuals. Leading in a group is valuable context to exercise your gifts and abilities while experiencing the blessing of growth for yourself.

Feeding the Family – Great relationships happen when people share a meal together. Or just dive into a conversation over a cup of coffee.

Serving Opportunities:

  • Hospitality Leader – Life gets tough sometimes…surgeries, births of babies, medical treatments, etc., that leave people exhausted and unable to cook a meal for the family. Our leader maintains a list of members who are willing to provide meals when needed. When a need arises, the leader contacts the members and makes arrangements for them to provide a meal for a family.
  • Hospitality Team Member – When we have a family in need of a meal, you will be called by our leader and asked if you are able to provide a meal and are given the necessary information about the family and meal restrictions. You decide if your schedule will accommodate the need, if not the leader will contact another member and you will be contacted again when the need arises.

Men’s Ministry – The Men’s ministry is for men to come together to enjoy friendship with one another, learn along with one another how to be a man worthy of respect, and to encounter God all along the way.  There are multiple opportunities available for men to use their gifts and skills in an effort to participate in this ministry.

Serving Opportunities:

  • Group Discussion Facilitators –Part of growing together involves discussing relevant topics together.  This is a great way for men to offer leadership in a low commitment capacity.
  • Event Planning –As social, service, and growth events are sought after for the men’s ministry experience, there will be opportunity for men to be closely involved in making these events happen.  Planning events could be as simple or involved as the planners choose and is a customizable way to be involved in areas that each individual is interested in.

Young Adult Ministry (The Ascent) The Young Adult Ministry is available to anyone in their twenties or thirties. During these years many find themselves in a great deal of transition seeking God’s will with issues such as where to live, furthering education, finding and beginning a career, and being involved in significant relationships. By coming and sharing life together we can help one another sort out these questions as we grow in our walk with God and have fun along the way.

            Serving Opportunities:

  • Leadership Opportunities – Within the context of this group will be a number of occasions to use and develop one’s leadership gifts.
  • Event Planning –Social, service, and spiritual growth events will be regularly offered in this ministry and would be a great avenue for people to gain experience in administration and event planning.
  • Mentorship – All of us could benefit from friendship and wisdom from someone more experienced that ourselves.  In the same way, God can use us to encourage and challenge others who may not be as far along the road as we are.  Mentorship is a natural way to serve in this group.
