There are times when life is a cakewalk. But most of the time, it feels more like a tightrope. There we are, a hundred feet up in the air, trying our level best to keep our balance and stay on the wire…
Sometimes, what shakes us up comes from the outside: a pink slip, a call from the school office, a scary medical report. But often what threatened our balance comes from within: appetites that go bad, envy that consumes us, questions we can't answer. And we wonder how to keep walking that high wire when disaster is just one misstep away.
We aren't the first to face such things. Again and again in Scripture, we meet people who also faced similar uncertainties: Adam, Eve, Lot, Aaron, Miriam, Rehoboam. And from each of them, we can learn some lessons on how to stay sure-footed in this high-wire world.
