    Reaching the Next Generation
    Psalm 78

God is always on the move. Always at work. Always doing new things. As the school year begins its final countdown, we will take a look this weekend at how God has been at work at Family in Christ in the past and highlight where we sense he is leading us in this coming months. Psalm 78 remind us to pass our faith along… "6  so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. 7  Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds." Join us this weekend as we celebrate what God has been doing so that we are prepared for the next new thing he has in store for us.

    Jesus’ View of Women
    Luke 10: 38 - 42
Preview: Last month I flew to Tennessee to see my mom. She said it was for the last time. When we parted, she, my sister, and I sang together an old song: "God be with you till we meet again," we began. And then we stopped. That's all we could sing. No more words would come. And frankly, no more words were needed. We just sat there. Together. Hearts filled with gratitude and grief. All at the same time. Jesus loves me, this I know. For my mother told me so. My mom told me so, because she knew how Jesus felt about her. "How Jesus Views Women" will be the subject of our message as we celebrate our Women's Weekend here at Family in Christ.

    Say
    John 9:1-15
Preview: We've reached the conclusion of our "Love Where You Live" series and perhaps the topic for this week is the one that make everyone nervous. What do I actually SAY about God to my neighbors? When do I say it? And do I really have to SAY anything at all? Sometimes we think that speaking with our neighbors about God requires a biblical degree or the blue ribbon of Bible trivia champs. And we fear that our neighbors don't want to hear anything we have to say about God in the first place. Join us this weekend as we consider together John 9 and how the story of God connects with the stories of our neighbors...and us.

    Allay
    John 8:1-11
Preview: Sooner or later, when you love where you live, the issue of faith comes up. Maybe you bring it up. Maybe they do. But almost certainly, that neighbor of yours has thoughts and feelings about God and Jesus and church. Perhaps not exactly POSITIVE feelings. When people don't attend church or STOP attending church, usually there's a REASON. So what will you do when they express their disappointment or their disbelief or their doubts? How can you allay their fears if they have been hurt by a church or Christians in the past? And how can you communicate both compassion as well as clarity in what Jesus is really all about? That will be our subject this weekend in worship as we take a look at Jesus' encounter in John 8 with a woman who was brought to him by the Pharisees. Join us as we are again amazed at Jesus' response.

    Luke 19:1-10
Preview: Last Sunday afternoon I took a ride around Standley Lake in my next door neighbor's 1968 bright yellow Corvette convertible. Mike has been working on it for weeks. Sunday it was time for a test drive. "Looks like today's the day," I said. "Yep," he smiled. And off we went. Mike seems to know little about faith and I know even less about rebuilding engines, but Mike and Teresa are my neighbors. And so Judy and I have been intentional about waving to them as we leave the house, stopping to talk for a moment when we get home. Through it all, we have learned a bit about their hopes and hurts, their hobbies and habits. It's just the start of a relationship. But that is where loving where you live begins. Last weekend, we invited you to give your neighbors a second look by praying for them. This week, as we hear Jesus call Zacchaeus down from that sycamore tree, we see still the next step to neighboring: meeting them and learning their names. When we do, who knows where it will lead? Perhaps a joy ride around a lake. Perhaps not. But God has a way of using us no matter what when we love where we live.

    Pray
    Luke 10:25-37
Preview: They may be the most famous words Jesus ever said: "Love your neighbor as yourself." And while few would argue with the sentiment, most of us struggle with the actual practice. Where do we find the time? Or the courage? How do we connect with people who are so different than we are? All good questions whose answers will come if we have answered a FIRST question: WHY ought I love my neighbor as myself? And that is the question we will look at this weekend as we kick-off our "Love Where You Live" series. Join us as we hear Jesus' answer to that WHY question in one of his most famous parables of all - The Good Samaritan.
